In Part I of the workshop, healthy learning dispositions and the development of the classroom community were discussed. Strategies to ensure that all children will have the opportunity to participate the following: 1. In making decisions about how they want their class to be were shared. 2. Providing tools for teachers that support a caring classroom community.
Aspects of the physical environment that can impact learning and relationships were also explored. Conflict and its role in the development of knowledge as well as adult- child relationships and principles of teaching in conflict situations were also discussed.
In Part II of this workshop, participants focused on how young children learn. Precisely, the development of executive functional skills and how the teachers can grow the intellectual environment in the classroom. The role of development, and what recent research tells us about how young children can develop 21st Century Skills were also discussed.
