Conference in Shanghai, China

Dr. Beth Van Meeteren & Dr. Larry Escalada

Dr. Beth Van Meeteren, Director of the Iowa Regents’ Center for Early Developmental Education and Dr. Larry Escalada, professor of physics and science education at the University of Northern Iowa have been invited to be guest speakers at two conferences in Shanghai, China.

The first conference, The Second International Conference on STEAM in Preschool Education, will be held on October 15th and 16th.  This conference is sponsored by three organizations:

1.     Chinese Society of Education

2.     Chinese Cyan Geese Peace Education Foundation

3.     East China Normal University.

Dr. Escalada will be presenting a session on "Assessment of STEM Content and Practices in Young Children and the Inquiry Teaching Model."  Dr. VanMeeteren will present a session on "Implementing STEAM in Early Childhood classrooms using Ramps & Pathways." 

The second conference is  The 4th International Summit Forum by Matt which will be held at Shanghai International Conference Center on October 16th and 17th. This conference is intended for preschool practitioners including teachers, directors, teacher educators, and business owners and will be focus on the theme Integrated Early Childhood Education Program from 0 to 6. VanMeeteren and Escalada's joint session is entitled “STEM Experiences as the Nucleus of Early Education: An American Perspective.”
